Workshops specifically designed for students with SEND

Picture

As teachers we are very aware that students learn in different ways and may need adaptations in order to access what is being delivered. We do not think this should be a barrier to art education and indeed many of the most creative people are neuro-diverse. Our own son was recently diagnosed with ASD and we have learnt a lot from him about his specific needs and learning styles. Additionally, our extensive experience as teachers for 18 years has given us the skills and understanding of neuro-diversity and the tools to adapt our teaching for individual students' needs to get the very best results.

How will the workshops be adapted?

We understand that every student is different and our aim is to make adaptations based on the individual needs of students attending the workshops. For this reason we would like to ask for as much information about your child's learning needs when places are booked on the sessions.
Some more general adaptations we will endeavour to make are:
  • Adapted environment - low lighting rather than fluorescent strip lighting
  • Noise reducing headphones available or calming music played
  • Activities presented in 'stewn' way, to enable individuals to make choices about which task they partake in
  • Time out area with comfy sofa, books available and area to move in order to regulate
  • Fidget toys available
  • Smaller group sessions
If you have any further suggestions we would love to hear them!

Our workshops

Unfortunately, due to lack of bookings for this workshop we have had to put this on hold for now. However, all our workshops are inclusive and accessible for a wide range of needs and some of the adaptations above will still be on offer. Please do email us with any questions.

Costs and booking procedure

We ask for half term block bookings. Workshops are priced at £22.50 per session and there are 2 free spaces available in each workshop for children entitled to free school meals.

To book, please go to the bookings tab.

We are in the process of applying for funding to further subsidise our workshops and hope to be able to reduce prices in the future.
