Make and fill a sketchbook in Norwood Park

Friday 24th July 9.30am-3pm
Age 6-12
In this Summer holiday workshop students will learn how important sketchbooks are for planning, documenting and observing ideas in art. We will discuss how artists use sketchbooks to inform their practice. We will then use Japanese bookbinding techniques to make mini sketchbooks in the workshop space which we will take with us to Norwood park. In the park we will experiment with a range of drawing, collecting and recording techniques to fill their mini book before returning to the workshop space to share the work and complete the books to take home.

2 Day Film School

Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th July 9.30am-3pm
Age 10+
In this 2 day workshop participants will discuss various filmmaking techniques and short film examples. They will learn about lighting, directing, camera work, sound and location shooting.
On the first day they will experiment with test shooting and then work together to plan a narrative for a short film which they will story board.
On the second day, they will be assigned film making roles and as a group shoot a single short film.

Painting Masterclass

Thursday 30th July 9.30am-12.30pm
Age 12+
In this 3 hour workshop aimed at teenagers we will discuss how artists have used painting to depict flowers. Students will learn about colour theory, paint application and use of form. They will then utilise these skills to make an A4 acrylic painting on board. They can take their paintings home with them at the end of the workshop or collect once completely dry.

2 Day Workshop: Cardboard Technology

Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th August
Age 6-12
In this two day sculpture workshop we will look at contemporary artists who use cardboard construction in their work and discuss links to sustainability.
On day one, students will experiment with creating joints and making 3D shapes with cardboard. They will also make observational studies of objects related to technology. They will then utilise this knowledge to construct a sculpture of a tech object of their choice.
On day two, we will experiment with colour mixing using acrylic paint and how to paint detail. Students will paint their cardboard constructed sculptures to resemble their chosen object. They will be able to take their sculpture home.

Screen print a T-shirt or tote bag

Friday 28th August 9.30am-12.30pm
Age 12+
In this 3 hour workshop we will discuss the process of screen printing and how artists have used it in their work, looking specifically at print in fashion.
Students will design their image and use hand applied drawing fluid and screen block to create their own small screen. We will then use acrylic fabric medium to print on to either a T-shirt or tote bag which they can take home.
Please note the materials for this workshop are quite expensive hence the increased price.

Photography: Distorted Nature

Tuesday 1st September
Age 6-12
In this workshop, we will discuss how photographers have captured nature in unexpected ways. We will explore experimental photography techniques to distort natural objects both in the workshop space and in Norwood Park, these include students creating their own filters and lens covers, use of mirrors and learning about exposure. Students will learn how to use our Canon DSLRs and work in pairs or threes. We will also create distorted manual photo montage work.
Best photos will be edited and shared via google drive after the workshop.
